Dante really did not like people who committed treachery, as is evident in his book, The Inferno. So, what happened to people who committed treachery? Well, according to Dante, as soon as one became a traitor, his or her soul immediately plummeted to the very deepest, coldest part of hell where they were frozen in a massive lake of ice. Yikes. In addition to this, the three greatest traitors in history were being eternally chewed in Satan's mouth: Brutus, Cassius, and, of course, Judas.

So, why were traitors given such a painful reality? For Dante, treachery was fraudulent acts between individuals who share special bonds of love and trust. The guilty individuals were so removed from the warming special bonds of God's love that they were frozen self-absorbed. They are betrayed by their own love of the Luciferian conceit. It chews on them. Well, think of it this way: you get mugged by your mother. This will not only shock and confuse you, it will also make you rethink every time you've been around your mom and she was nice to you. Was she faking all those times, just waiting to mug you? It makes you rethink if your friends are really your friends, it flips your reality upside down. This is why traitors were sent to the worst part of hell.
