The key steps in the process of the German unification were mainly achieved by three wars planned and executed by Otto Vo Bismark, a Prussian statesman and diplomat. The wars were named as followed: The Second Schleswig War, the Austro-Prussian War, and the Franco-Prussian War. The key steps to the Italian unification were the struggle to gain freedom from Austria and the process of bringing the independent states of Italy into a single domain.
The second industrial period of the world was a time where many new and revolutionary machines were created that made products cheaper and life easier. Here are two different innovations of the second industrial period.
The gatling gun.
Created by Richard Gatling in 1862, the gatling gun is a multi-barreled powerhouse of a gun that can spew out more bullets in a minute than early 1800s muskets could over a year. Early models of the gatling gun were tested out in the Civil War. Early models were more effective than a musket, but they had their problems. They were expensive and used black powder, meaning that smoke could quickly obscure the enemy from view. They also required a carriage to move them, and all the bullets and powder required.
However, these design flaws were eventually overcome, and modern-day gatling guns are some of the most powerful weapons in the world, blasting out 50 bullets a second.
Now let's talk about the electric lightbulb. Patented in 1880, this invention was made by Thomas Edison, a famous inventor. This reduced gas fires caused by gas-lighted bulbs and fires in general caused by candles. Light bulbs are an excellent lighting source used worldwide due to their low cost, bright light output, and general efficiency.
