Job from the book of Job received a several brutal diseases and grievances from the devil that he didn't even come close to deserving. At first, things were going swell for Job. He had hundreds of livestock, dozens of servants, a wife, several children, a great house, and was a very good man who pleased God. But then Satan came strolling around.
Supposedly, satan was walking around the earth, and took a look at Job. Then Satan went up to God and started telling God that Job would stop obeying God if he took away Job's possessions. God said, "All right, but don't harm the poor dude." So satan killed his family, servants, livestock, and destroyed his property. But Job stayed faithful to God. So Satan went up to God and said, "He'll curse you to your face if you let me take away his health!" So God said, "Alright, but don't kill the poor dude." So Satan gave Job a disease that made his skin turn black, and get these huge blisters full of maggots. So Job was sitting there in a pile of ashes, scraping off blisters full of maggots, unable to eat, while mourning every one of his family members, not having done anything wrong. Wow, Satan. But Saul still stayed loyal to God, and God gave it all back, along with a new wife. Yippee! The conclusion we can get from this is that, while sometimes things get difficult, we can trust in God, stay faithful, and even thrive afterward, sometimes even do better than before.
