My Last Innovative Essay.

Hello everyone, this will be my last innovative history essay, and this one will be about the huge impact of the Jacquard Loom.

So, what was the world like before it? Well, rich people liked to wear fancy clothes with intricate designs. Back then, intricate designs were very hard to make on cloth, which meant that normal people had to wear very raggedly clothes, while rich people were living it up. Now, on to the guy who invented it. The inventor was Bastille Bouchon, son of organ maker. They used cams to make the pipes sing.

So, what does it do? Well, Jacquard loom automatically produces complex woolen patterns. "Programmable" cards create the thread patterns. This means that all those fancy clothes could now be made far more efficiently and be a lot cheaper. This also meant there was a sudden push for fancy clothes, meaning more people were required to man more machines creating these fabrics, allowing a push in jobs and overall wealth and happiness. However, it was invented in 1804, and took a while to catch on with the people.

Now on to the the five components of every worldview and explain how different worldviews determine what effects inventions will have in a culture. First, the Egyptians. They believed:

*Everything in the cosmos in connected by Ma'at.

*Most people had to serve the pharaoh.

*The rules of Ma'at required people to be social.

*Judgement: based on how life was lived.

*Time was cyclical, repeating creation and fall, over and over.

The Chinese believed:

  • All of the cosmos were connected: Tao.

  • People were little copies of the universe.

  • The rules of life weren't logical.

  • Alchemy was used to attain "Enlightenment."

  • Time was cyclical: flowing like a river.

The Greeks believed:

  • The Greeks believed in a lot of gods.

  • The Elite would lead the commoners into a virtuous life.

  • The goal was to live a virtuous life.

  • Worshipping family gods kept them alive in the afterlife.

  • History was cyclical, and time eternal.

Western Worldview:

  • God is separate from his creation.

  • Man was made in the image of God.

  • Obey God's Bible - revealed -commandments.

  • Christ returns on Judgement Day.

  • Time and history will end after all Christ's enemies are conquered.

Summary:

  • Most all cultures believed in cyclical time and history except those based on the Bible.

  • The Greeks failed to excel in their inventions because they despised work.

  • The Christian worldview spread through the world after Rome collapsed.

  • The Puritans brought an optimistic Christianity to America.

  • Different worldviews explain why inventions have different effects.
