Thomas Aquinas was seriously underestimated by the public at the University of Naples, which was a mistake, because he turned out to be a genius. Here's some background: Thomas Aquinas attended the University of Naples, where he was known as "The dumb ox" because of the way he walked around. He was a big dude and wandered around with his mouth open and often got lost. However, the reason he did this is because he was lost in his thoughts about philosophy. Everyone thought he wasn't worthy of attending the university - until he shared his philosophical ideas.
One day at university, there was this thing where one person at a time walks up to a podium and tells everyone their new philosophical thoughts, and people would give their critiques. Then it was Thomas' turn. He lumbered up to the podium, paused, and then told people his ideas. People were so shocked at how advanced he was at philosophy; he wasn't offered one critique - not one, even from the professors. So he calmly walked back to his chair and sat down.
Thomas had many incredibly advanced ideas about the nature of God and the nature of the universe, and he put them all into books, such as the Summa Theologica, Summa Contra Gentiles, On Being and Essence, and Treatise on Law. Overall, he published around 50 books about very advanced ideas about God and Philosophy.
Thomas Aquinas was a complete genius, and anybody who ever called him the "Dumb Ox" must have felt pretty stupid after his 50th book about ideas they could never comprehend was published.
