Deep Thoughts with Dalton's Atomic Theory.

(Read to the end and complete the activity shown, if you will.) Hello everyone, today I'm here to tell you about my favorite geniuses this year, and his name is.... Dalton. John Dalton, to be more exact. He was born in England in 1776, and had a certain passion for learning. He went on to become a professor and private tutor, and was fascinated by meteorology. He devised Dalton's Atomic Theory after three years of careful study and examination. Three yEaRs!!

Dalton's atomic theory was the first guy to try and describe all matter in terms of atoms and their properties, and he based his theory on the  law of conservation of mass and the  law of constant composition. The first section of his theory states that  everything is made of atoms, which are unsplittable. The second section of the theory says  every atom of a given element is the same in mass and properties. The third section says  compounds are mixed types of atoms. The fourth part of the theory says that  a chemical reaction is a rearrangement of atoms. Parts of the theory had to be modified based on the discovery of subatomic particles and isotopes.

He was wrong at one point, when he said atoms were really really hard. Believe it or not, Atoms are actually made up of empty space, as we see when we zoom in really far.

Dalton published his theory in a book, and asked his famous friends to spread the word. He also sent a letter showing his evidence and theory to the royal society. Believe it or not,

Alright everyone, hope you enjoyed the post! James Dalton has been enormously helpful to science, even though his theory has been revised over time. Alright, now it's time for the activity. Answer in the comments below if you think the top or bottom Dalton is more good looking. 😁
