The Green Knight had a disturbing Christmas game idea and Sir Gawain was not thinking clearly. First of all, I'd like to explain the Green Knight's idea. So, when Sir Gawain and the Green Knight starts out, King Arthur and his knights are all having a nice Christmas feast, when suddenly this green - clad lunatic barges in and proposes that, for a Christmas game, any one of Arthur's knights could inflict any injury they wanted on him, for which, in a year's time, they should find him that he might take his turn giving the same injury.

At first, nobody volunteered, and King Arthur was getting pretty embarrassed. However, one of his knights, Sir Gawain, accepted. Sir Gawain was clearly not looking forward to getting injured next year, so he picked up an axe and, in one clean chop, decapitated the Green Knight. What he didn't know was that the Green Knight was immortal. As the title indicates, The Green Knight calmly picked up his head and left, which left Sir Gawain some serious dread for next year.

Sir Gawain made a rash decision, which left him in quite a tight spot. What he should've done was think about the situation and then make his decision. Think about it: who proposes a game that could possibly result in his death without having something hidden up his sleeve? Sir Gawain wasn't thinking clearly in the midst of the Green Knight's insults and laughter, which could have resulted in his death. The lesson we can learn from this book is that you should never make a decision based off and insult or challenge alone, you have to make sure this is what you would really want to do in the first place.
