Hello everybody, this is Dalton, back with another Western Civ. essay. This essay I will be answering three controversial questions about the 18th century. So first of all, What was the Ptolemaic-Aristotelian view of the universe, and how did Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton undermine it and institute an alternative? Well, The Ptolemaic-Aristotelian view of the universe states that the earth does not revolve around anything else or rotate around its own axis. This meant that the sun and the other planets orbited around the earth. This was inaccurate, but was the main belief, which meant anyone who thought otherwise would be harshly punished.

Recent historians have found that some people have argued if religion and science were locked in battle during Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton's discoveries. Is this true? Yes, because Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, and Newton's discoveries were thought to be contrary to the past biblical belief that the universe revolves around the sun. This meant that religion and science had to have clashed.

My last question that will be answered is "What are the main ideas of the enlightenment?" The answer to that is that the main ideas were skepticism, individualism, liberty and secularism. These ideas prove that the enlightenment was a very distinguishing and revolutionary time for humanity. (Ok, I will never talk like that again.😂)
